These cats have good taste
My friend is in town visiting, and I was showing her my "new" luggage. It only took a second for the first cat to make himself at home in it. My friend and I knew we had to grab the other cat, and add some of their toys for the cutest photo shoot ever.

Awesome find!
I went to Goodwill today on a total whim. I ended up finding two really awesome 1960s suitcases. The best part is they're almost identical to a suitcase I have been eyeing on etsy, but the seller has been on "vacation" forever. They're in great shape, and smell like glorious old ladies. I couldn't be happier.

Hair High

Bill Plympton is one of my favorite animators of all time. I was so excited when he made a movie called "Hair High" that was set in the 50s. It's basically a story of two lovers that get murdered on the way to prom. Then they come back from the dead so they can finally have that magical prom date they had been waiting for. It's slightly on the weird/gross side, but I would recommend it to any fans of Cry Baby (or weird indie movies in general). I know I loved it. It's not on Netflix (yet) but if anyone is interested in it, you can buy a copy at http://plymptoons.com/ The soundtrack is really fun too. And just for fun, here is a picture of when I got to meet Bill Plympton at a film festival thing a couple years ago. He was super nice, and super tall. I just about died.

I'm not dead, just lazy :)

It's been a while, hasn't it? I survived my Spanish class, and have been home for the summer for the month. I finally went thrifting with a couple of friends last week. I found and bought that great peacock purse. I really have no idea how old it is, but it was too cute. The only thing the tag on the inside says is "Made in Hong Kong" so it's kind of mysterious! There was another purse just like it, only it had flowers on the front and wasn't as awesome. I also found two really cute pillbox hats but one was made out of real fur (which I'm not into) and one just didn't fit quite right. I wish I had at least taken a picture of the hats.
I thought about buying them to sell on etsy or ebay. I'm kind of undecided about doing that in the first place. On one hand, it could be a fun way to get a little extra spending money when I'm away at school. On the second hand, I probably couldn't put that much time or money into it since I would be away/busy at school. Does anyone out there have any advice for me about that?

I lucked out this weekend
I'm taking a summer class, and my last test/oral exam/final are all this week so I'll keep this short and sweet. I was back home visiting this weekend and went to the antique mall with my Mom. I got some super cute earrings, my mom bought me this great travel/train case, and then gave me a bunch of jewelry that belonged to my Grandma. SCORE!

Flapper Prom Dress

My sister just had her prom, and she wore an awesome flapper inspired dress. AND she was Prom Queen! She told me that she actually tried doing the Charleston, but it was too hard to do in heels to bad rap music. I wish I had thought to wear vintage to my prom. It was surprising enough that I even went in the first place. Not to mention I actually had a date, and he was a straight dude. Oh well.

Vintage Drag Queens?
I love drag queens, and I love Pandora Boxx. She was on RuPaul's Drag Race this last season. She was playing in a club in D.C. last night, so I went with a friend. I wore my 1960s dress, vintage earrings, and a vintage purse. I ended up getting to meet her after her performance! The first thing that she said to me was that she LOVED my dress. That made my day. I laughed and said that I was just about to tell her the same thing about her dress. I hate how awkward I look in this picture, sort of like a deer in headlights. I'm also posting a video of her lip-synching to one of the songs in Chicago...It's very flapper-licious.

Quick Pic

A couple Halloweens ago, one of my friends had a party and the theme was old celebrity icons. I was looking through old pics and found a picture from that night. I had already planned out my costume when the theme was decided, otherwise I probably would have been Bettie Page. So here's Liza Minnelli, Elvis, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Charlie Chaplin

Jane Russell
I've been pretty MIA lately. Thanks to finals, one of my guinea pig dying, and then my Grandpa dying, I just haven't been in the mood to do much of anything. I got caught up on a lot of my school stuff today, so I've been watching a lot of clips from old musicals on youtube tonight.
Now I love Marilyn Monroe, but I think that Jane Russell is the best part about the movie, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. I LOVE the musical scene when she's in the gym, singing with all those scantily clad men around. If you think about it, it's pretty homo erotic, and it looks like they're wearing thongs if you squint your eyes a little bit. It makes me giggle every time. I don't know if this is true, but I've heard that the part where Jane Russell gets knocked into the water was unplanned. She just went with it, and it ended up being the "best" take they made of that scene. I really need to see more Jane Russell movies. Time to get another Netflix account I guess.
