Vintage Drag Queens?
I love drag queens, and I love Pandora Boxx. She was on RuPaul's Drag Race this last season. She was playing in a club in D.C. last night, so I went with a friend. I wore my 1960s dress, vintage earrings, and a vintage purse. I ended up getting to meet her after her performance! The first thing that she said to me was that she LOVED my dress. That made my day. I laughed and said that I was just about to tell her the same thing about her dress. I hate how awkward I look in this picture, sort of like a deer in headlights. I'm also posting a video of her lip-synching to one of the songs in Chicago...It's very flapper-licious.

Quick Pic

A couple Halloweens ago, one of my friends had a party and the theme was old celebrity icons. I was looking through old pics and found a picture from that night. I had already planned out my costume when the theme was decided, otherwise I probably would have been Bettie Page. So here's Liza Minnelli, Elvis, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Charlie Chaplin

Jane Russell
I've been pretty MIA lately. Thanks to finals, one of my guinea pig dying, and then my Grandpa dying, I just haven't been in the mood to do much of anything. I got caught up on a lot of my school stuff today, so I've been watching a lot of clips from old musicals on youtube tonight.
Now I love Marilyn Monroe, but I think that Jane Russell is the best part about the movie, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. I LOVE the musical scene when she's in the gym, singing with all those scantily clad men around. If you think about it, it's pretty homo erotic, and it looks like they're wearing thongs if you squint your eyes a little bit. It makes me giggle every time. I don't know if this is true, but I've heard that the part where Jane Russell gets knocked into the water was unplanned. She just went with it, and it ended up being the "best" take they made of that scene. I really need to see more Jane Russell movies. Time to get another Netflix account I guess.

World's Longest Yardsale

Has everyone here heard about the World's Longest Yard Sale? I love that sort of thing, but I first heard about it two years ago.
What: It's a huge group of yard sales with everything from single families selling stuff to huge parking lots full of serious antique dealers and EVERYTHING in between.
When: It starts the first Thursday of every August and lasts for four days, through Sunday.
Where: All along route 127. It goes from Alabama to Ohio.
Seriously, if you can make it, GO! Here is the official website http://www.127sale.com/
I was able to go with a good friend, and her family about two years ago. We started in Alabama and made it part way through Tennessee. My best score was a 1950s hat, with a matching hat box. The little old lady that sold it to me was so happy that a "young gal" like me was interested in a hat like that. I sadly had to pass over tons of vintage furniture. The price was right, but I had no cheap/easy way of getting it home. There was an amazing 1960s (?) station wagon for sale that my heart still longs for. It was one of the best vacations I've ever been on. Go if you can. It's amazing!

(Beware, this post contains drawn/naked boobs)

Before my Grandparents got married, my Grandpa was in the military and was working overseas (this was after WWII). I believe these are the pin up girls my Grandma drew for him while he was away. (Again, I don't mind if people want to save these for their own viewing pleasure, but please do not re-post them anywhere else.) :)

I'm Officially Declaring it "Grandma Week"

First picture: Grandparents, and I assume the kids are my Uncle and my Mom. Yellow is my favorite color, so I'm very jealous of that suitSecond picture: Another wedding picture
Third and Forth: I'm pretty sure my Grandma is the youngest girl in these two pictures. I love the hairstyles in these two pictures
My two favorite facts/stories about my Grandma: 1. She got kicked out of college for punching a nun, all because she didn't want to wake up early enough for classes. 2. She ended up meeting my grandpa when she picked him up when he was hitchhiking
I think it would be awesome if this really did turn into "Grandma Week" so if anyone would like to do the same, please post pictures/stories/whatever about your Grandma(s) in your own blog

Grandparent Wedding Pictures

I'm not sure what year my Grandparents (Mom's side) got married, but I think it was around the very late 40s, early 50s. I don't know what my Grandma is doing in the first picture, but I just love it. Her dress is also to die for.My uncle just posted a bunch of old family photos on facebook, so I will be posting more sooner or later. I really don't know much about them, but they're so fun to look at. At least I think so! I don't mind if people want to save them for their own viewing pleasure, but please do not re-post them anywhere else. :)
