More Grandma Pictures

These are from the mid/late 50s. I love my Grandma's hat in the first picture, and her skirt in the second picture. The kids are my mom and one of my uncles.

I'm back at school, and my classes start today. This could either mean that I'll be posting less because I'm busy, or posting more because I'm avoiding school work. We'll just have to see what happens I guess.

Musical Monday: The Pirate

I'm not sure when this was supposed to be set in, but the costumes are amazing. And it's hard to go wrong with a movie starring Gene Kelly and/or Judy Garland. I got this movie for my birthday a few months ago. I finally watched it with my sister and a friend who was in town.

Yes, another purse. Yes, another cat picture.

A friend of mine is getting married, and we went to a wedding convention this weekend with her future mother in law. No one took pictures, but there was a booth that was focused on a 1940s theme wedding. All the people working at the booth were dressed in 1940s outfits and hair. It was too cute! I don't have a huge desire to get married in the first place, but that would definitely be my dream wedding. We took a break and stopped by a vintage shop. Not only did my friend's MIL buy me the gloves I had picked out for myself, but she also surprised me with this purse! It was so sweet! It reminds me of a purse I had from my grandma when I was little that was more of a "dress up" toy, and eventually got ruined. So a big thank you to Mrs. B.

And since cats are awesome, here is a picture of my sister's cat that we were cat sitting over the weekend. He sounds and looks evil, but he's so sweet and cuddly.

Musical Monday: Peter Pan

Mary Martin's version of Peter Pan is the best one out there, hands down. That's all that really needs to be said about this movie :D

Trying to do more outfit posts...

I want to start doing more outfit posts. Two problems: 1. Most of the time my clothes are more casual/un-vintage than I like to fantasize 2. Remembering to take pictures is hard. We'll see how this plan goes. Maybe the answer is going to more drag shows because it seems like it's the only time where I dress cute AND get evidence. These pictures are from a while ago, seeing the wonderful Pandora Boxx. My clothes were modern (vintage inspired), but my jewelry/purse were the real deal! Goal two is to start looking more excited in my pictures. I have a pretty "dead pan" personality though, so that might be harder to do...

I'm going to a late Christmas party tomorrow and a wedding convention Sunday. Depending on what I decide to wear, there might be a good chance of more outfit posts coming soon!

(Early) Musical Monday: Damn Yankees

This is early because I'm leaving for D.C. in the morning. If I wait until tomorrow morning to post, I will most certainly forget.

I almost didn't give this movie/play a chance. Who cares about baseball? Not me. Then one night a friend of mine had an extra ticket to see it live, so I went. The main story is about a guy who gives his soul to the Devil so he could play baseball and beat the Yankees. I loved it so much that I came home and immediately bought the movie and the soundtrack. I chose two songs from the movie, and one from a live version.

Late Christmas Post

I was able to get a temp job over winter break as a greeter in a museum! That pretty much translates to reading and talking to adorable old ladies and men all day. It's been pretty awesome. I got some nice presents for Christmas, including some good vintage goodies:

Cute Jewelry:

Poodle Purse/Poodle tissue box:

and my wildest fantasy come true:

I LOVE vintage purses, but I HATE that they're usually so small. I'm just a girl who likes to carry a lot of crap around. This one is HUGE. It's big enough to throw in a notebook, and a bottle of water which means I can use it when I'm going back and forth to classes all day! Plus it's totally neutral so I can wear it with anything.

I hope everyone had a good holiday, and a good New Years. To be perfectly frank, 2010 can kiss my ass, so it will be very nice to have a fresh start. :D

Musical Monday: Beach Blanket Bingo

I totally forgot it was Monday, so this will be quick! I can not count how many times I have watched this movie. I could watch it a million more times, easily. It's a pretty typical beach party movie but I love it to death.

This scene isn't in the movie (at least not the VHS version I have) but I'm pretty sure the music is used as background music.

Lucky Thrift Finds!!!

All the vintage Christmas ornaments at the antique mall are always really expensive. I joked to my mom that I could probably find a box-full for a dollar at a thrift store sooner or later. Sure enough, there was bag of them today for about a dollar! How lucky is that? There were over a dozen, and I only need to fix the tops on a few. These are my favorites:

My other sister does a lot of craft stuff/jewelry making. She bought a huge grab bag of jewelry bits and pieces. There were several old earrings with no mates. She made them into rings for me! They are so cute! After we were done with thrifting, we stopped by Target and I bought another cloche hat.

Musical Monday: Gene Kelly

Instead of posting about one movie, I decided to post some different clips of movies Gene Kelly has been in. Our love affair started in my 6th grade music class when the teacher played Singing in the Rain. Being a typical snotty middle-schooler, I couldn't believe we were being forced to watch such a "dumb" movie. Of course I ended up loving it. I don't know what I was thinking before, because it's not like I didn't already like musicals or old movies. Just being a jerk I guess.
