HAPPY HALLOWEEN

I ended up with two disgruntled pumpkins this year, and two grey cats skulking around them. I also love the thought of Mary Poppins hanging out with a pirate (or my sister).

I think this is my favorite Halloween costume yet! I'm off to Rocky Horror Picture Show in a little while. More pictures to follow soon!

Red is my color today

I have never owned makeup, and probably have worn it under ten times in my life. I ended up in the makeup section of K-mart with a friend today after picking up some Halloween stuff. She helped me pick out some red lipstick on a total whim. I got NYC's Retro Red and Tropez's Lush Apple Red. They ended up being pretty close to the colors I was imagining in my head. They were super cheap so even if I only use them a couple times (good possibility), it won't be a waste.

My mom also surprised me with this dress for an early birthday present. She got it at Target. You can't really tell from the picture, but the skirt is grey/black houndstooth. It's super cute. I was looking at the Target website and they actually had a lot of 50s and 60s style dresses.




I would have taken a picture of myself in the new dress and new lipstick, but I ended up destroying my camera today. Of course I dropped it taking a picture of my neighbor's cat sunbathing on my porch :(

Pee Wee's Playhouse

Miss Evonne from Pee Wee's playhouse always had the best 1950s/60s outfits and hair. I always wonder if little things like that planted the vintage seed in my head. Of course I had to dress up as her one year.

Halloween Fever!!!

Halloween is probably one of my all time favorite things in life. This year I'm going to be Mary Poppins. I'm actually using a lot of pieces from a steam punk costume I threw together for a science fiction convention a few years ago. Who knew I would end up getting a second use out of some of those things. I only need a couple more things and my costume should be done! I'm getting super excited! What is everyone else dressing up as?

These cats seriously love my luggage. Of all the snuggly places in my room they COULD choose to sleep, they fight over who gets to sit on top of the CLOSED suitcase. At least Grey Cat has the right idea sometimes.

I found the pictures from the first time I tried faux bangs...almost a year ago. The first time was definitely harder because my actual bangs had not totally grown out yet, and I also had a failed attempt to trying victory rolls. I also miss my Halloween-themed hair color!

Attempting Faux Bangs

Sometimes I would love to have vintage hair to go with my vintage clothing. The truth is I'm lazy, and not very good at doing hair in the first place so I get even more frustrated when I try. I know practice makes perfect, I'm just bad at the practice part. I tried doing faux bangs last night. They came out pretty well for the second time I've ever tried doing them! I feel like I might have some hope!

One of my best friends from high school had been in town this month, and she stayed with me for a bit. I mentioned to people that we had been staying up until 4am for most of the week. They, of course, figured we had been out partying it up like college kids should be. The look on their faces when I told them that we had spent those nights listening to records from the 40s and playing with cats was priceless. I've been super obsessed with this song this week:
